Hotel Delfino Lugano
I had the opportunity to spend a month in the Hotel Delfino in Lugano, Switzerland - a family-owned business, managed by the friendly, third-generation owner, Federico Haas.
The hotel is located in Lugano Paradiso, only a few steps away from the lake, right next to the bus stop of lines 2 and 4. You can choose to have a 20min stroll along the lake or a 6min bus ride to arrive in the centre of Lugano. The big terrace with its inviting pool transcends that holiday feeling already upon arrival.
As a true local, Federico knows the area like no one else. Make sure to have a chat with him to get the best tips of what to do and where to eat. Caslano, Grotto dei Pescatori and Lido San Domenico are only a few of his favourite and must-visit gems in the region. It was great to explore all of his recommendations.
Federico is also committed to supporting the local community and engages in social responsibility. Together with Paolo, the cook, they choose as many local products as they can to be used in their delicious dishes. And with Manu, they recruit and train apprentices and interns to support them in the preparation to enter the job market in hospitality.
The staff of the hotel is super amicable, with a very family feeling among them. They have been in the hotel for years (some up to 20 years), which demonstrates the pleasant ambience enabled by the owner (a fact not to be underestimated in the hospitality industry) - this is then naturally also translated into the friendly service offered to the visitors.
