GourmetBar Bern

Inside the Novotel Bern Expo, you’ll find the GourmetBar Bern - which will receive its own communication channel to attract locals for lunch and dinner. A place to connect visitors with the citizens of Bern in an uncomplicated, friendly and vibrant environment. 

Therefore, my total focus for the assignment was the Restaurant only - bringing it to its essence. 

Being a food lover, I always enjoy spending time in the Kitchen and documenting the cook's work process. With many years of experience in the kitchen and food design, Sebastian Probst started his position at the GourmetBar in September 2021 and brought the full passion for creating dishes that you'll want to try. 

He sees the value in working with local suppliers and partners, so he is making sure to connect locally and find the best fitting brands. An example is the wagyu burger provided by Hornochs  - a meat supplier located close to Bern that guarantees quality, taste, sustainability, and cares for the animals and land. Or the grated cheese that goes in the burger composition, which originates from a family business in the Swiss Alps - Panorama Hof, who also value the fair handling of the cows.

The Pasta is, of course, freshly handmade. So is the Focaccia that will be served if you order the appetisers at the bar. 

One of the new things I learned while talking to Sebastian is the salted egg yolk. He involves egg yolks in salt and leaves it for 24hs. After that period, the yolks are hard (they look almost like an apricot but have a harder consistency) and are used by him to grate on the menu's pasta dish. This method of salting the yolk used to be used in the past to store food. 

Together with the lively GourmetBar Bern family, we covered the imagery of the kitchen, dishes, corporate lunch - every day, a lunch special, complementing the fixed menu, coffee mood, dinner and the evening mood, with drinks and appetisers/snacks.

As a gift to their team members, the Hotel's managers also decided to allow the individuals to get a portrait shot if wanted. I thought it was a lovely treat. We've done a few, not many, but still a nice gesture and incentive (#employerbranding).

The GourmetBar is a place to go for lunch during work, alone or with colleagues, and meet with friends in the evening to relax, laugh and have a good night out accompanied by good food, beer, wine, or any drinks you wish. The impeccable service, with a group of international individuals who are always eager to help and have many stories to tell (if you’re open for it), the modern-chic but down-to-earth environment, and the tasty food guarantees a great lunch, dinner or night out.

The Restaurant is located a bit outside of the city centre, but close to Bern's main sports stadiums and exposition centre. If you're around Wankdorf (the neighbourhood's name), make sure to stop by and say hi to the team.
