Essential by Dorint Basel City Part II

Since the one week in July was not enough to cover all the things to explore at the Essential by Dorint Basel City, I returned for a second period in September.

This time, to explore a bit more the surroundings and to-dos of the Hotel's region, such as cultural experiences and the activities one can do when travelling with kids.

I had the opportunity to arrive on the weekend that Art Basel was happening - an international art fair held once a year in Basel, Miami and Hong Kong. A compilation of artworks and art galleries, where artists, art collectors and celebrities from the art scene meet. The fair takes place an entire week and opens to the public from Friday to Sunday.

Since it was my first time, I didn't know what to expect, but now I know: next time, at least two days will for sure be needed to visit the fair. Besides the artworks, one can also participate in the Parcours, watch films, listen to talks and visit other sub-events surrounding the central hub. One should plan enough time to absorb it all.

With the magnitude of information and people, after a few hours, your brain requests some rest. After leaving the fair, at least a day is needed to process and digest all the insights gained.

The Hotel is the best place to stay, a five-minute walk away from the hub, where the event takes place. Here a few impressions of Art Basel 2021:

Essential by Dorint Basel City is a very family-friendly hotel. We had the influencer Maaraja FamilyLifestyleTravel with her husband and one of her daughters (little Gaia) visiting for a few days to showcase the family mood of the Hotel.

They played in the garden, in the kid's corner, Gaia got a Teddy bear from the receptionist Julia, and we visited the Tierpark Lange Erlen, located not too far away from the Hotel. Enough places for the kids to run around and activities to discover in the city.

I was lucky with the weather while staying here, and could experience a beautiful sunrise at the Münsterplatz, which I can highly recommend (I guess it must be a known place for it since I wasn't the only one admiring the view) . Walking around the little alleys of the city and discovering the city by foot is another must.

To complete my experience, I also visited the Vitra Campus (accessible by public transportation or car) - an architecture park located at Weil am Rhein in Germany, very close to the borders of Basel. A place to get inspiration and enjoy the sun outside while admiring the work of famous architects and designers - a program to be done solo, with a partner, friends or even kids.

During my stay, I could stay in an apartment like room. The Hotel offers all types of categories to choose from. The apartment I stayed in even offers a tiny kitchen with utensils, coffee machine, kettle and microwave. Felt like having a home for ten days.

Its central location makes the Essential by Dorint Basel City the best place to stay to visit fairs, participate in events, watch musicals, or visit other cultural venues and happenings in the city. Make sure to book in advance, though, since it is a place liked by many.
